Bowling notebook: Stark County USBC finishes team tourneys; Tri-County, Ohio USBC announce new HOFers; NEOTL ends season

CANTON — With four of the top eight teams rolling on the final night at Eastbury Bowling Center, the Stark County USBC’s 104th annual Open and 92nd annual Women’s Championships ended their team competition Friday.

Dan Terry fired the lone 800 series of the team competition Friday,, shooting 28 en route to an 816 series. Also shooting 300 games during the Open event were Jim Fellows, Matt Frock, Tony Godden, Rich Stoffer, Frank Testa and Jack Wells.

In unofficial final standings, South Point Shuffle captured the handicap team title with 3,657 total pinfall (including 159 pins of handicap). Team members are William Gaynor, Matthew Heater, Jay Kennedy, Alex Wagner and Michael Barstow.

In the women’s handicap team division, Ten Back Babes topped the field with 3,373 (including 74 pins of handicap). Members of the team included Renae Burns, Jennifer Suchan, Chelsea Dorosky, Kamryn Smith and Mandi Testa.

Dorosky and Kara Kutz had the lone 700 series in the women’s division with 747 and 727, respectively.

TRI-COUNTY HOF NAMES CLASS

AKRON — The Tri-County Bowling Hall of Fame, which includes members from Summit, Portage and Medina counties, has announced its 2025 class of inductees.

New inductees in the outstanding bowling ability category include Doylestown’s Joe Bailey and Streetsboro’s John Kertis.

For bowling service, the inductee is Eric Hartline.

The final two class members — as Bill White Pioneer Award winners — are Bettie Blasdale and Jim A. Mitchell.

The enshrinement dinner will be held at 7 p.m. June 6 at Guy’s Party Center in Akron. A social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the enshrinement ceremony, set for 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 each. Contact Julie L. Molenaur or Jim Mitchell via Facebook or in person for tickets.

OHIO STATE USBC HALL

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State USBC has announced four new members to be inducted into the Ohio Bowling Hall of Fame for 2025.

Three of the inductees are in superior performance, including Massillon’s Mandi Testa. Other inductees in the category include David Callery and Mark Stsibora. In addition, Roberta Bobbit was selected in the meritorious service category.

TRAVEL LEAGUE ENDS SEASON

JACKSON TWP. — The Northeast Ohio Travel League ended its 2024-25 season with its annual banquet at La Pizzeria, including presenting three individual awards.

Fred Olivieri Construction captured the league title in a 3-1 win over RJ Flooring in best-of-five Baker System championship match. Members of the winning team include Troy Wilt, Scott Hopkins and captain Jim Fellows. The NEOTL’s player draft is set for 6 p.m. May 17 at Park Centre Lanes. There is a $10 application fee. The league bowls a 30-week season with starting times between 8 and 9:30 p.m. Thursdays at bowling centers in Stark, Wayne, Summit and Portage counties. Weekly fees are $25.
